Your voice is needed to ensure that funding for cancer research is a priority in FY2011!
In effort to ensure a sufficient increase for the National Institutes of Health (NIH), House champions Rep. Markey (D-Mass.), Rep. Schakowsky (D-Ill.), Rep. Holt (D-NJ), Rep. Davis (D-Calif.), Rep. Courtney (D-Conn.) and Rep. Speier (D-Calif.) are inviting their colleagues to sign a letter to the House Appropriations Committee supporting a boost in funding for the NIH.
The letter states that the advocacy community is recommending a $35 billion budget for NIH and urges appropriators to provide an increase of at least 7 percent in FY2011.
Please take a moment to e-mail or call your representative today and urge them to contact Rep. Markey's office to sign the letter by March 17.
Additionally, ask your member of Congress to submit a Program Level Request of $35 billion for the NIH to the Labor Health and Human Services and Education Appropriations Subcommittee and assure them that the request will not count against their allotted number of funding requests. This is the one opportunity for each legislator to make their own funding recommendations to House leadership.
It is critical for representatives to both sign the letter and submit the Program Level Request. Urge your representative to do so immediately. Take action now!
